Lieberman in 2004?
Eight Democrats are vying for the party's presidential nomination. Sen. Joseph Lieberman, Al Gore's 2000 running mate, is a candidate. Gore-Lieberman promised to "fight for the people," a promise they abandoned. Lieberman could have joined the Congressional Black Caucus in challenging Florida's Electoral College votes. He did not! Nothing has happened to convince blacks he will fight to make sure our votes count this time. In fact, just the opposite!
Once installed in office, Bush jawboned down the economy to create a climate conducive for tax and spend policies that favored the wealthy. A wealthy do-nothing Democrat, Lieberman has either sided with Bush or been silent too often to be the party's standard bearer; he does not represent its core constituency. A conservative hawk, Lieberman will not challenge Bush. A Lieberman candidacy ensures Bush's reelection and the continuation of policies that kills people of color for oil. Vol. 6 No 8

War on
Terrorism
By
Rev. Timothy McDonald, III
Our nation and the world are filled with the sounds of war and death. A wake-up
call, 9-11 showed Americans are vulnerable; it shattered our illusion of safety
and destroyed our myopic view of the world. Terrorists took our planes and flew
them into buildings. The fact that their targets were the World Trade Center
and Pentagon should be cause enough to ask questions.
Over the years, we watched congressional inquiries and investigations into the
assassinations of President Kennedy and Martin Luther King, Jr. With interest,
we read about the Pearl Harbor bombing probe and its findings. We watched
Watergate and Whitewater hearings. Special prosecutors spent millions of
dollars, only to tell us that they found virtually nothing. Now, we are
attacked, and few seem to want to know "WHY."
Black Americans know our government's history of targeting leaders for
character assassinations or guilt by association. Whether Democrat or
Republican, not for one moment do we assume our government is totally innocent.
Our reading of history tells us that something is rotten in Denmark. The
Government Affairs Committee Hearings held February 7, 2002 and chaired by
Senator Joe Lieberman called for a 9-11 investigation. President Bush asked
Senator Tom Daschle to limit the investigation, because it would "take
resources and personnel away from the efforts in the war on terrorism."
Americans have a right to know everything about 9/11, and we have a right to
know the connection between this "War on Terrorism" and the energy
industry. We have a right to know why VP Dick Cheney refuses to turn over
documents to the General Accounting Office. The Concerned Black Clergy (CBC) (http://www.thedish.ws/(www.concernedblackclergy.com/))
will confer with Senators Daschle and Lieberman and seek further information
about the congressional investigation of 9/11. We will support congresspersons
that believe a full and thorough investigation is in order.

Conservative
Rhetoric
"Social conservative," "pro-life" and
"anti-abortion" are George W. Bush labels. In these draconian
designations, wherein lies a woman's right to self-determination or racial
equality? Conservative rhetoric pays lip service to "traditional"
family values- code for 3/5ths Compromise.
Bush promised to appoint justices that strictly interpret the Constitution. In
so doing, he told Southern conservatives what they wanted to hear, solidifying
his base, while dividing the country. Appointing former Sen. John Ashcroft as
attorney general puts Bush on course to creating a conservative court from
which to shape America for the next half century, fulfilling his promise to
preserve white supremacy as envisioned by the Founding Fathers. Reinforcing his
commitment, Bush spoke at Bob Jones University and paid homage to the Confederate
battle flag as a symbol of his heritage. Bush's mandate, if his selection has
any, is to turn back the clock on social gains made by minorities and women.
To prevent re-segregation and the suppression of self-determination for women,
Turnout 75% voted for Al Gore. A Bush in office espousing radical conservative
rhetoric completes Newt Gingrich's Contract with America. Constitutional strict
construction keeps Article 1 Section 2 intact. It is the foundation of Plessy
v. Ferguson and the segregated America that existed before Brown v. Board of
Education. Strict construction aborts Roe v. Wade and ends self-determination
for women. Bush's selection is bad news for blacks and women that do not
support his conservative rhetoric. Issue 2

Death
Penalty A.K.A. Lynching
A strict constructionist, Texas Governor George W. Bush wields capital punishment like Dr. Death; he gives compassion a bad name. Dead on arrival, his campaign theme says he is a compassionate conservative. Like lynchings during the 1900s, Bush racks up political points with death and hard-line speeches in support of capital punishment. Supporting the death penalty is a virtue for prospective Presidents in this Christian nation. Hoping to put Bush in the Oval Office, Texas executes regularly. Only hypocrites call these public executions compassion when they so closely resemble crucifixions.
The June 2000 execution of Shaka Sankofa highlighted serious flaws in U.S. capital punishment. True to his promise, Shaka fought to the end. Also known as Gary Graham, Shaka claimed his innocence to his last breath. Life fast fleeting, he urged others to press his case before the International Court of Justice. He challenged us to stop the genocide.
In 1997, the Richard L. Kirksey, Jr. Memorial
Foundation asked Secretary General Kofi Annan to intercede on our behalf to
prevent black genocide. Since we are not a recognized national entity, blacks
cannot press their case in the international arena. Those of us committed to
changing the socioeconomic and political conditions our children face see
Shaka’s death as a symbol of genocide against our race. The death penalty is
lynching, a modern day euphemism for crucifixion. For black Americans, the
death penalty is more than a political issue for 2000; it is a matter of our
survival.

Caricatures
The DISH's camera obscura reflects an obtuse perspective providing a panoramic vista of candidates for President in 2000. Like cocktails, these delectable morsels are feasts for the dinner party set. Pat Buchanan merges George C. Scott and Slim Pickings in Dr. Strange Love, but with Darth Vader's sharp edge. Pat is prepared to go down in flames and take the country with him.
