Poetry Month Internationale

Poetry is not only the international language of love, it is an international telepathic medium of empathic speech. Through Yohannes’ themes in T.H.I.N.C., The DISH has maintained a dialogue on race since January 13, 1998. In that year, The United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan declared 2001 a Year of Dialogue among Civilizations. The Secretary-General’s declaration addressed diversity and the need, "for people of different cultures and traditions to get to know each other better, whether they live on opposite sides of the world or on the same street." He invited the world to plan and implement cultural, educational and social programmes to promote this dialogue. Representing the Atlanta Vibe in this world plea for peace, love and understanding, Yohannes and AHOP (African House of Poetry) will host a special international poetry reading at ESP (Experimental Spoken-word Performances) Wednesday April 18, 2001 and add the ATL’s voice to millions.

Coinciding with Poetry Month, Yohannes is inviting all poets to become part of this international statement of peace and love. Poets raising their voices against racism, bigotry, sexism, homophobia, ethnic cleansing or any other form of dehumanization at this reading will have an opportunity to included their work in an international anthology, which will be distributed free to everybody. Poems must focus on the theme and cannot be more than 60 lines. They can be previously published.

Topping the list is new age poet Ntrensick. Special guest for Vanguard, Yohannes’ first concert, Shawna Kent will read from WORDS her first book. Sign up early, the list is filling up fast. Readings will begin at 8:00 P. M.
